Take Two and Kill Me in the Morning

Take Two and Kill Me in the Morning

Is it Chili in Here?

LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Susie and Jacob color on the floor.  The television is on.  Walt is in a chair with a TV tray in front of him, on top of which is a steaming bowl of chili.

INSERT - TV TRAY

A bottle of Satan’s Spittle brand hot sauce is next to the steaming bowl.  A blurb on the label reads, “Condemn Your Taste Buds to the Fiery Pits of Hell!”

BACK TO SCENE

Walt uncaps the bottle and begins adding generous amounts to his chili.

Molly enters, putting an earring in her ear.  She is dressed up as if for a date.  She sees Walt adding the hot sauce.

MOLLY

(to Walt)

Oh, honey.  Are you sure that’s a good idea?

WALT

Where’re you off to?

MOLLY

Pilates.

There is a KNOCK at the door.

MOLLY (CONT’D)

(calling out)

It’s open!

FABRIZIO enters.  He is athletic and has a luxurious head of long blond hair.

MOLLY (CONT’D)

(to Fabrizio)

Come on in, Fabrizio.  I’ll be ready in a second.

(beat)

This is my husband, Walt.

(to Walt)

Fabrizio is my Pilates instructor.  We’re carpooling to the gym.

Fabrizio stoops to shake his hand.

FABRIZIO

Pleasure to meet you.

WALT

Have a seat, Fabrizio.  Please.

Fabrizio sits on the couch next to Walt’s chair.  Walt shovels chili into his mouth.

WALT

Ooh, Lordy.  That is some hot chili.

FABRIZIO

Walt.  I’ve heard so much about you.

Molly sprays perfume on herself.

WALT

All good I hope.

(To Molly)

You sure are getting fancied up just to get all sweaty.

FABRIZIO

That is part of the ritual, now isn’t it?

WALT

Not sure I follow you there, Fabrizio.

MOLLY

Walt!  He’s a guest in our home.  There’s no need to rake him over the coals.

(beat)

Well, we’re off.

She kisses Walt on the cheek.

MOLLY (CONT’D)

Don’t wait up.

They exit.  Walt eats chili.  Susie brings her work to show Walt.

SUSIE

Daddy, daddy.  Look.

He takes the paper from Susie.

INSERT - SUSIE’S COLORING

Walt holds the page from the coloring book.  It is nicely colored for the most part.

BACK TO SCENE

WALT

You got to be careful there, hon.  You colored out of the line.

The Acedia commercial comes up on the television.

ANNOUNCER (V.O.)

(on television)

Have you asked your doctor yet about Acedia?

INT. OFFICE - DAY

Walt sits at his desk.  JIMMY, Walt’s co-worker, appears in the doorway.

JIMMY

You got the copy for that control top ad yet?

WALT

Hm?  Oh, sorry.  I was just thinking . . .

JIMMY

Carruthers has been on my ass all week.  I think he’s concerned about you.

WALT

You’re a married guy, right Jimmy?

JIMMY

Four months.  Why do you ask?

WALT

Sometimes I’m tempted to think that Molly’s having an affair.  I know it sounds crazy, but . . .

JIMMY

Hey, stranger things have happened.

WALT

I can’t get it off my mind, Jim.  It’s interfering with my work.

Walt picks up the phone and starts to dial.

JIMMY

Who you calling?

WALT

My doctor.
